What happens instead?

Do you have any third party plugins installed, particularly GitHub Copilot? We've had a couple of instances where Copilot is interfering with how Tab is processed. Might be worth trying it with Copilot disabled, if you have it.

In view mode, I want to use the tab key instead of the percent sign (%), but it doesn't work after configuration; line indentation is still applied.

Oops. Sorry, was confusing this with another issue. This behaviour is actually by design.

The IDE's Tab features take precedence over Vim's handling of Tab. This is important so that several IDE features like Live Templates, Emmet expansion and Next Edit Suggestions work. Vim's Tab processing happens after all other IDE features. You can remove the Tab binding to the Indent Selection action in the Keymap page of the Settings dialog. Then IdeaVim will get the keystroke and process the mappping.

After I deleted the "indent selection" configuration in IntelliJ IDEA, it worked.
