DND, what's it meant to do?

On my Pixel Pro 10 XL, if I set the DND setting in the BT profile to Off, it seems to switch it on when activated. E.g I have it set to Off for the device, and if I manually switch off DnD on the phone and restart it, DnD gets switched on. If I change the setting to Do not change, a restart leaves DnD alone.

I just updated to Android 17 and it's doing the same.

Hey, thanks for the report — you've hit a real bug. Short version: the Off option can't do what its name implies on your phone, and that's a platform limitation.

What the options are meant to do when the device connects:

• Don't change – BlueMusic doesn't touch DND at all.
• Off – turn DND off.
• Priority only / Alarms only / Total silence – turn DND on at that level.

The catch: starting with Android 15, Google changed the rules so apps can no longer turn DND off (or control the global DND state at all). The old API BlueMusic used now quietly creates an app-owned "mode" instead of clearing DND — which is exactly why, on your Pixel 10 Pro XL / Android 17, picking "Off" ends up showing DND as on. "Don't change" behaves because it makes no DND call whatsoever.

There's no supported way for any app to force DND off on Android 15+, so "Off" is being removed on Android 15+ in an upcoming build. Existing "Off" settings will be treated as (and shown as) "Don't change", and the "turn DND on" options keep working.
